The disasters of the 44-day war continue: Karapetyan calls for unity against the weakening of the state

Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the Strong Armenia party, delivered a message on the sixth anniversary of the start of the 2020 44-day war. He placed responsibility for the massive human and territorial losses on Armenia’s current leadership headed by Nikol Pashinyan, accusing him of putting his personal political fate above state interests.

According to Karapetyan, the tragedy could have been avoided: the authorities had levers to stop the war but did not use them, fearing for their own ratings and the political consequences. The politician stressed that six years later the consequences of the war remain unresolved, and that the current policy is leading to new territorial concessions and a weakening of the state.

He declared the concept of “peace at the price of concessions,” promoted by the government, unacceptable, and proposed an alternative path: establishing peace without surrendering national interests. Karapetyan also called for public unity and spoke critically of the authorities’ actions regarding the memory of fallen soldiers, stressing the need to pay tribute to the heroes’ feat.
