Disciplinary proceedings initiated against judge hearing case of Supreme Patriarch’s brother and nephew

Armenia’s Minister of Justice has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Gevorg Manukyan, a judge of the Armavir Province court of general jurisdiction, who is hearing the case of Hambardzum and Gevorg Nersisyan, the brother and nephew of Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, FactInfo reports.

On September 10, the Ministry of Justice filed a motion with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to hold Manukyan disciplinarily liable. It is not yet officially known what violation Manukyan is accused of, or why.

The SJC hearing is scheduled for October 12 at 2: 00 p.m.
