PACE records problem of selective political prosecution: Aram Vardevanyan

“This time, the assessment of the elections in Armenia turned out to be completely different.” This was stated in a conversation with Alpha News by Aram Vardevanyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, commenting on the discussions of the elections in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

According to him, a lack of impartiality on the part of the Central Electoral Commission was recorded, as well as the fact that a specific political force, Prosperous Armenia, was excluded from parliament despite receiving 4% of the vote.

“I would like to touch in particular on the component of political prosecutions. As a recommendation to the authorities, it was stipulated that they should stop selective prosecutions. In other words, throughout the pre-election, election and post-election periods, the tools of criminal prosecution and criminal proceedings turned into a weapon used for political purposes. All these arrests, prosecutions and pressure were noticed by the Council of Europe,” he said.
