Pashinyan making statements that worsen relations with Russia while getting nothing in return: Denis Denisov

Political analyst Denis Denisov commented to Alpha News on the rhetoric of Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia’s prime minister, regarding Russia and the European Union.

According to the expert, the Armenian leadership’s position is systemic and strategic in nature.

“We are dealing with a completely systemic, understandable and, one might say, strategic position on the part of Armenia’s leadership, in particular Pashinyan, regarding the rhetoric he is putting forward,” Denisov said.

In the analyst’s opinion, the European Union has so far made no official offers of full membership for Armenia or a specific roadmap for such a process.

“Despite these statements, the European Union has made no official comments, let alone official invitations for Armenia to join the union as a full member, or even a proposal for a roadmap to that end. And this, of course, is where the absurdity of the situation lies: Pashinyan is deliberately making statements that are received very negatively in Russia, and is, of course, spoiling bilateral relations, getting absolutely nothing in return except some symbolic capital. But this is a geopolitical, symbolic choice made by the prime minister of Armenia,” Denisov concluded.
