Sometimes taking after your uncle isn’t bad: Narek Karapetyan congratulates nephew on international win

Narek Karapetyan, head of the Strong Armenia faction, posted a video on Facebook from the awards ceremony for the Europe with Circular Bioeconomy prize. He noted that at the 2026 European Union Contest for Young Scientists, his sister’s son Hovhannes, together with friends Hayk and Tigran, received an award for Airify, a self-cleaning air filter made from corn biomass.

“Sometimes taking after your uncle isn’t so bad, but only sometimes! Thank you to Ayb School for the good education,” Karapetyan wrote.

Earlier, media reported that Hovhannes Manukyan, great-nephew of Samvel Karapetyan and grandson of Karen Karapetyan, brother of the Strong Armenia party leader, was awarded, along with his teammates, a prestigious bioeconomy prize in Germany. The young man has enrolled at one of Scotland’s leading universities to study business management.
