Rosatom confirms Armenian nuclear power plant ready for operation until 2031

Russian state corporation Rosatom and representatives of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) have confirmed that the plant can operate safely until 2031, Rosatom said in a statement.

“The fifth meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee was held in Yerevan, with the participation of representatives of the Republic of Armenia, the Rosatom state corporation and its enterprises, on the second extension of the service life of Unit 2 of the Armenian NPP… The participants discussed the progress of the project, as well as the results of work carried out in 2024-2026 by Russian and Armenian specialists. It was noted that a number of buildings and structures with a total area of 15,890 square meters have been inspected, and documents confirming the safe operation of the reactor facility until 2031 have been developed and approved,” the statement said. Following the meeting, the parties agreed on a plan of measures for 2027-2030.

According to Yevgeny Salkov, director general of Rosatom Service JSC, a package of work to upgrade the plant’s key systems is planned for 2027, aimed at ensuring its continued efficient operation through 2036.
