Farmers block Yerevan–Artashat highway demanding solution to tomato sales problem

The Yerevan–Artashat highway is currently blocked. Tomato farmers are holding a protest demanding solutions to problems with selling and subsidizing their harvest. According to villagers, the situation has put them in a difficult financial position and on the verge of bankruptcy.

“I owe 870,000 drams in one place and another million in another. We took out loans for agrochemicals and the drip irrigation system, and we did everything we could. If I can’t repay my debts this year, next year I won’t be able to work the land and will be left with nothing,” one of the participants said in a conversation with journalists.

Tomato producers are demanding state support and the introduction of mechanisms to stimulate exports.
