‘Appetite comes with eating’: Sergei Markelov on Azerbaijani MFA statement

Speaking to Alpha News, Russian political strategist Sergei Markelov commented on the statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, in which Azerbaijan demanded eight villages from Armenia.

According to the expert, Azerbaijan will proceed with its demands until the end.

“Azerbaijan will continue to come up with things that Armenia owes it until the last meter, because Azerbaijan won, and now it feels its strength. Azerbaijan is stronger in this situation in terms of armament. The collective mind, in this case Turkiye, the EU, and, possibly, the United States, suggested to Azerbaijan that Armenia could be defeated if the event that ultimately occurred happens, that is, if the territory is seized. Azerbaijan will continue this until it stops, because external assessments of this situation, unfortunately, are on Azerbaijan’s side,” Markelov noted.

“Now they have come up with 8 more villages, then they will come up with some meters, they will start moving fences, erecting stone walls, and so on. That is, as part of their, as they believe, territorial victory, they will do everything they can. The most important thing in this whole story is that Azerbaijan does not know how it will all end. Appetite comes with eating, and Azerbaijan now has exactly this condition. This will last as long as it is beneficial to the leadership of today’s Baku. This is all being done for the sake of strengthening Aliyev’s authoritarian regime and preserving Azerbaijan’s domestic agenda. And Armenia became a hostage to this goal. Erdogan does not need Karabakh at all. This story is needed only for the Aliyev family, who control Azerbaijan,” the political strategist noted.

“No matter what Baku does, the whole story with Karabakh will be the historical curse of Azerbaijan for all centuries,” Markelov concluded.
