After the 2020 war, Artsakh people returned to their homes, trusting Russia, political scientist Karen Bekaryan said in an interview with Alpha News.

“After the 2020 war and the infamous trilateral statement of November 9, a huge number of our compatriots from Artsakh returned to their homes from Armenia, trying to restore a life’s rhythm. Who ensured their return? Who did they trust? It will be ridiculous if someone says that they returned, trusting the government or Nikol Pashinyan.

They returned believing that they had security guarantees from Russia. And if we discuss this issue from a moral point of view, then people actually believed and trusted one side, but what happened happened.

Now let’s talk about the legal side. The trilateral joint statement of November 9 is added to the legal component in this regard.

For what purpose was the peacekeeping mission deployed there? To ensure the exit of our compatriots from Artsakh or to ensure their normal life and the uninmpeded functioning of the same Lachin corridor? Is there a problem here? Of course there is,” Bekaryan said.

According to the political scientist, any questions should be addressed to the authorities of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh before being addressed to Russia.

“If we talk about the political component, then various kinds of questions should be addressed to the authorities of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh before being addressed to Russia. These two have their share of guilt. But does all this free Russia from its share of responsibility? Of course not. It is unacceptable when people shift all responsibility to one side, but I also do not accept condoning the other side,” Bekaryan concluded.
