Karen Igityan: As soon as the Azerbaijanis set foot on the territory of Armenia, they will begin to provoke conflicts

Speaking with Alpha News, expert on regional affairs Karen Igityan said that Azerbaijan introduces the narrative that Armenia is Western Azerbaijan at all levels.
“The National Assembly of Azerbaijan very clearly continues its policy. A narrative about the perception of Armenia as Western Azerbaijan was created a long time ago, and, indeed, they believe that this territory belongs to them, and according to this narrative, it should be theirs. They disseminate this in their textbooks, in speeches and materials of the Academy of Sciences, in the speeches of the president, that is, at all levels,” Igityan said.
According to the expert, as soon as the Azerbaijanis set foot on the territory of Armenia, they will immediately start to provoke conflicts.
“The return of the so-called Azerbaijanis is just a pretext with which Azerbaijan will try to interfere in the internal affairs of Armenia, and then it will already have a legal reason to intervene. So, these people will come and begin to provoke conflicts and clashes here. Then there will be two options: either, in order to avoid these conflicts, the Armenian population will leave the territory where there are many Azerbaijanis, or, if a conflict does arise, then Azerbaijan and Turkiye will try to come with the troops, stand there and say that they are simply ensuring the safety of the population,” our interlocutor stressed.
Karen Igityan noted that these Azerbaijanis, who grew up in an atmosphere of Armenophobia, will become a source of conflict in Armenia.
“Turkiye and Azerbaijan will try to become guarantors of the rights of returning Azerbaijanis. The point is that they provoke conflicts, because until relations are settled and the policy of hatred towards Armenians does not stop in Azerbaijan, they will come to Armenia with one goal: to create a conflict. They will try to put pressure on us within our borders, and we will return to 1918, when there was a large Muslim population in Armenia,” Igityan concluded.
