Yevgeny Satanovsky: Pashinyan is not ready to take any steps through Russia; he definitely wants to take them through the West

Russian political scientist and president of the Institute of the Middle East, professor Yevgeny Satanovsky commented to Alpha News on the statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about the “diversification of security relations” and his proposal to sign a non-aggression pact between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“I don’t see anything in any of Pashinyan’s statements, since I don’t follow them and I’m not ready to guess what he says and why he says it. This is almost the same as wasting time analyzing Zelensky’s statements. What is the point of this? None. Well, that means something is not working out for him in relations with Azerbaijan within the framework of all those rather foolish ideas that he had.

Mr. Pashinyan is not really ready to take any steps through Russia. He definitely needs to take them through the West, since he either does not care at all about the fate of Armenia or he has some personal ideas on this matter. Well, there is practically no Ukraine, but Zelensky feels good: he’s rich, and he’s getting richer and richer. Well, why would you think that Nikol Pashinyan thinks about the country and not about himself and his combinations? So, the devil knows what he means and what he will do.

But he was elected prime minister of Armenia, right? He was chosen after the defeat in the Second Karabakh War. Well, this means that his voters will get what they’re going to get, with all the other Armenians suffering as well. Nothing can be done about this,” the political scientist said.

As for Armenia’s arms-related cooperation with different countries, the expert believes that the key is not weapons but the desire to use them competently.

“What he means is that he needs to break off relations with Russia and join NATO, the key state of which in the region is the Republic of Turkiye with its well-known ‘love’ for Armenia, not to mention Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s personal attitude towards Armenia and the Armenians, for God’s sake!

He received all the modern weapons that could be obtained—that much, I know for sure.
At the same time, he had to do a lot to fail, but he managed to do it.

He had Russian weapons, but if these weapons are not unpacked, they do not help in the war. If you do not teach and train your personnel, any weapon lying in warehouses is useless. And if you engage in what I would call repression and destruction of these personnel—this is exactly what Nikol Pashinen did in relation to those who led Karabakh and the defense of Karabakh—then, in general, everything is unfortunate. Well, okay, he is driving Armenia into eternal debt in order for some old stuff to be given to him by Americans, French, or anyone else who did not manage to give these weapons to Ukraine,” the expert emphasized.

Commenting on the motives for Pashinyan’s controversial actions, Yevgeny Satanovsky comes to the conclusion that the Armenian prime minister is guided by his own selfish interests rather than the interests of the country he leads.

“People who are engaged in politics sometimes very rarely decide on the national interest, but much more often they deal with their personal or group interests, their sponsors, and their supervisors. Well, Mr. Pashinyan’s sponsors and supervisors are, first of all, Americans, and secondly, Europeans. In this regard, I don’t really understand; what else could you expect from him?!” Satanovsky concluded.
