Armenians of Pyatigorsk and Armavir celebrate Trndez  

One of the most anticipated holidays of the Armenian Church, Trndez or Tyarnndarach, was celebrated in the Armenian community of the Russian cities of Pyatigorsk and Armavir.

The feast is celebrated on the 40th day after Epiphany. On the eve of the feast, after the evening service, priests bring out candles lit from the holy altar.

According to an ancient tradition dating back to the pre-Christian era, the blessed candle is used to light up a bonfire, symbolizing the saving light of Christ.
