Work is underway to open a route from Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan through the territory of Armenia, but there is also an alternative option through the territory of Iran, Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu told the Hurriyet newspaper on Monday.

“Work is underway to open the route passing through Armenia. Its length is 43 kilometers. If there are problems on the Armenian side, Azerbaijan is also in contact with Iran regarding the possibility of opening the corridor through Iranian territory,” Uraloglu noted.

According to him, both options are currently under consideration. When asked about the stage of the construction, the Turkish official said that Azerbaijan continues the construction works in its territory. A tender for the construction of the road from Turkey to Nakhichevan has also been announced.
