NATO’s attempts to expand its influence will hardly add stability in the Caucasus, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

“We are well aware of NATO’s aspiration to consolidate its presence in the Caucasus. It is visible to the unaided eye. We also understand that NATO’s attempts to expand its influence can hardly add stability in the Caucasus and predictability to the situation.

These contacts are the sovereign right of the Caucasian states. We are closely monitoring and mainly intend to focus on our bilateral relations and the instruments of cooperation that our side has,” Peskov said, commenting on the NATO Secretary General’s visit to the Caucasus.
