Dimitri de Kochko: The only geopolitical friends for Armenia are Russia and Iran
French journalist Dimitri de Kochko commented on the news that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will discuss trilateral cooperation in Brussels.
According to the expert, France will not be able to help Armenia, while the European Union may say something, but these will be just words.
“Ursula von der Leyen was in Azerbaijan, where she signed an agreement on the gas and oil supply to avoid purchases from Russia. This is very hypocritical, since this is Russian gas and oil, which simply transit through Azerbaijan. Thanks to this, Azerbaijan earns money.
The West needs Ukraine and Azerbaijan against Russia, so they are betting on Azerbaijan. Why does Israel help Azerbaijan? Firstly, it does what its boss tells it to do, and secondly, because this is a necessary game of the allies—against Iran as well.
Pashinyan admitted that Nagorno-Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan, but who told him to do this? It was the Americans and the European Union. This is a huge act of foolishness that he did for ideological reasons. In my opinion, it was a catastrophe for Armenia.
As for France, Emmanuel Macron has his own game, including in relation to the Armenian diaspora. Unfortunately, France will not be able to help Armenia, while the European Union may say something, but these will be just words,” de Kochko said.
According to the expert, what remains of today’s Armenia are “pebbles”, and this does not interest people who are more interested in oil.
“If Armenia survives, it will be thanks to its strategic location, since this location is important for Iran, which must act quite carefully because a third of its population is Azerbaijani. Armenia’s geopolitical interest, in my opinion, is to play for Iran and Russia. There is no need, of course, to quarrel with the West. It should welcome the fact that Macron makes good statements and sends several armored vehicles, but Armenia should not rely much on this. This must be used in the current strategic and geopolitical realities, but relying on this, in my opinion, would be a mistake. The only geopolitical friends for Armenia are Russia and Iran,” de Kochko concluded.
