According to tour operators, Armenia remains a popular destination for Russian citizens, both for tourism purposes and as a transit point for flights to other countries.

There are direct flights from Yerevan to 22 countries, operated by 33 carriers, including Lufthansa, Wizz, Air France, Qatar Airways, Aegean Airlines, and flydubai.

However, experts note that this year the tourist flow has decreased due to the rise in air ticket prices. Tickets to Armenia as an independent destination sold well when Georgia was closed.

According to Irina Medvedeva, the destination manager of Russia’s Vand Company, Armenia has become less popular among Russian citizens for political reasons. However, according to Anna Filatovskaya, director of the PR department of the Russian Express holding company, interest in Armenia is not decreasing. “This is one of the few year-round and, at the same time, budget-friendly destinations. There are vacation options for every season. Excursion tours to Armenia are most popular in the spring and summer,” she said.

Statistics show that a total of 2.3 million foreign tourists visited the country in 2023. This is almost 40% more than in 2022 and 21% more than in pre-pandemic 2019. Half of all tourists were from Russia (1.2 million), followed by Georgia (255.4 thousand), Iran (150 thousand), the United States (59 thousand), and Germany (28 thousand).
