Russian border guards remain in Armenia, says Russian official

Russian border guards remain in Armenia, they will guard the Armenian border with Turkey and Iran, Alexander Bortnikov, candidate for the post of Head of the Russian Federal Security Service, said during consultations in the Federation Council.

According to him, Armenia asked to withdraw temporary task forces from the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and close the problem of presence in those sections that were not legally defined. “Such a decision has been made,” Bortnikov said.

In the near future, he said, the border checkpoint at Yerevan’s Zvartnots airport will also close.
