International journalist Abbas Juma, who is now in Tehran, commented to Alpha News on the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
“Mourning has been declared in Iran; there will be funerals; people are crying. This is a national tragedy without exaggeration, although, I am sure, this will not fundamentally affect the country’s policy. This will not lead to the collapse of the system since the system is built in such a way that all parts in it are interchangeable. I have given this example many times, and I will give it again: remember the death of General Qassem Soleimani. His martyrdom did not lead to the deterioration of the country’s armed forces or the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He was replaced by an equally effective and talented general, albeit less well-promoted by the media. This is how the system is built in Iran,” Juma said.
According to the journalist, the majority in Iran is inclined to believe that Israel is the culprit, which may have acted through Azerbaijan.
“As for the versions discussed by people, those with whom I was able to talk are mainly inclined to believe that this was the assassination attempt. Most believe that Israel is the culprit and that it may have acted through Baku, using the territory of Azerbaijan. Of course, these are all just speculations; I am just talking about public opinion. But there are also people who believe that we should not jump to conclusions, that maybe it was just the weather, fog, or an accident. Such opinions also exist, but as I have said, I mostly come across those people who believe that this is a terrorist attack,” Juma concluded.
