Iran is interested in gaining EAEU observer status, Chair of the EEC Board Bakytzhan Sagintayev said in a press conference following the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.
“We received the relevant note on May 27. It will be considered in due course,” he said.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk noted that there are certain procedures for gaining this status. Once they are realized, Iran will be able to become an observer approximately in December.
The EAEU includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, with Uzbekistan, Cuba, and Moldova having observer status in the organization.
