Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Andrey Suzdaltsev commented on the meeting of the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan with the new US Ambassador to Armenia Kristina Quinn.

According to the expert, Armenia’s orientation toward the West is designed for financial support.

“We see that Armenia is now engaged in a gradual geopolitical shift. It departs from the common position of the post-Soviet countries, from the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and from relations with Russia. Naturally, shifting to the West, Armenia would like to have more ties and more contacts with it. That is, it is now discussing options with France, the United States, and even Ukraine on how to shift to the West without any problems in security, economics, or finance and how to avoid these difficulties. Therefore, this consultation on leaving for the West is designed specifically for financial support from the United States,” Suzdaltsev said.

“Armenia wants to sell its current geopolitical place as profitably as possible. It wants its pivot to the West to be paid for. How much it will be paid for and how it will be paid for is already a matter of bargaining. Ukraine has been doing this for a long time. It has been trying to balance between the West and Russia and hoped that the West would give it more opportunities, money, and resources,” Suzdaltsev concluded.
