Only Israel is interested in a full-scale war, Sergey Melkonyan, a research fellow at APRI Armenia, told Alpha News.

“There is only one state in the region that is interested in a full-scale war. We are talking about Israel, or more precisely, the leader of Israel. Israel has set a number of goals. Firstly, the return of captives; secondly, the destruction of Hamas’ military infrastructure in Gaza; and thirdly, the return of people from northern Israel to their homes. The issue of captives could only be resolved through negotiations. Now that Haniyeh was killed in Iran, it has become obvious that they have not achieved the goals they set for themselves,” the foreign affairs expert said.

He explained what Netanyahu has achieved as a result of the steps taken by Israel.

“He understands very well that he is losing international support, or rather, Israel is losing the support of its allies. Accordingly, it is increasing the level of escalation. Only in this case will the US and other allies be ready to support Israel,” Sergey Melkonyan said.

He is confident that Israel will do its best to build a wall between Iran and the United States, making it impossible for them to negotiate.

“Pezeshkian won the Iranian presidential election. He sent all the messages that Iran is ready to negotiate with the US. By trying to drag Iran into a war, Israel is actually building a big wall between the US and Iran to stop any attempt at a negotiation process. It is also trying to bring the US back as its ally,” Melkonyan concluded.
