Speaking with Alpha News, Professor Alexander Cheremin commented on the news that in a new textbook on Armenian history, the entry of Eastern Armenia to the Russian Empire in 1828 is called an annexation.

According to the expert, historical concepts are being changed to please certain forces that are in the elite of the new state.

“You just need to look at the documents and see what happened at the beginning of the 19th century, how dangerous it was there for the Armenian population, and how everything became calm already in the 1830s, when it became the territory of the Russian Empire. Historical concepts are being changed to please certain forces that are in the elite of the new state. If, for example, ‘liberation’ or ‘voluntary entry’ was written earlier, then this can be replaced with the words ‘capture’, ‘annexation’, and ‘occupation’.

This is the disease of all historians who are under a certain ideology of the elite that governs the state at the moment. Sometimes certain contradictions occur among the historical society, the Academy of Sciences, or the government itself when they begin to invent some definitions that do not correspond to reality. Therefore, this just says that there is a certain element of children’s mind control, and there is a shift that certain circles want to show today,” Cheremin said.

According to the historian, Russia was the guarantor of Armenia’s security from the onslaught of aggressive neighbors.

“This happens when historical documents are not used. You can simply look up various treaties in the same Foreign Ministry, where it is written how the entry or liberation of some territories took place, especially because back then it was necessary to save Armenia from the same Persian troops that regularly captured the territory of Armenia and evicted the Armenians, who had certain good skills in crafts and trade, so that Persia itself would rise, and only those people who were not such professionals remained on the territory of historical Armenia.

Then, when the neighboring states of Persia and Turkey saw that this was the territory of the Russian Empire, they, of course, stopped engaging in these plundering raids across the territory of Armenia. After all, it is one thing to fight a small state and another thing to fight the country that defeated both the French and almost all of Europe in 1814. Russia was the guarantor of Armenia’s security from the onslaught of aggressive neighbors,” Cheremin concluded.
