What happened to Armenia after 2018 also affected the press, President of the Union of Journalists of Armenia Satik Seyranyan told Alpha News.

“Very often, we, journalists, understand that the state faces such big problems that it is very difficult to follow professional rules as a journalist. After 2018, it is impossible to simply follow professional ethics. The current government, led by Nikol Pashinyan, has many of its own journalists who attack other media representatives. Journalists now face many challenges,” Satik Seyranyan noted.

According to her, the United States is also to blame for the increase in attacks on the media in Armenia.

“Disproportionate sanctions are being imposed on journalists and media outlets, and the number of lawsuits against media and journalists has increased. I had the opportunity to meet and discuss this issue with US ambassadors. I myself told the former ambassador that all of them are responsible for what is happening in Armenia regarding freedom of speech and the press. They were all surprised. Why? Because they were silent and silently supported all this,” Satik Seyranyan noted with pain.
