Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec, who won a silver medal for Turkey in the mixed team air pistol event at the Olympic Games, continues to be in the spotlight. Dikec went viral after he competed with no protective gear. On the Internet, users are actively sharing his photos and writing that the Turkish athlete shoots as if “the target is Armenian”.

Alpha News spoke with Turkologist Tiran Lokmagyozyan about this topic. According to the Turkologist, Turkish nationalism is at a very high level today.

“These collages and memes have become widespread not only in Turkey but also abroad. Foreign athletes, even football players, take photos imitating a hand with a gun. I have been talking about such cases for many years, but we, Armenians, have not drawn any conclusions from Turkey’s attitude. The few who come out and talk about peace and love, about brotherhood, can be considered a drop in the ocean. I will say more, when photos, collages or memes containing anti-Armenian manifestations appear on the Internet, they receive thousands of likes, but when it comes to peace, only a few people support it,” Lokmagyozyan noted.

According to him, Erdogan is pursuing a fascist policy towards Armenia.

“After his second election, Turkish President Erdogan is pursuing a fascist policy not only towards Armenia but also towards all of his neighbors. He threatens the entire world and is accepted by the fascists as their leader,” the Turkologist concluded.
