In an interview with the Rossiya TV channel, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that some post-Soviet countries “want to take something from Russia and give nothing in return.”

“We, Belarus and Russia, are actually in the same boat. If it flips over, we will both drown—both Russia and Belarus. We, Belarus, don’t wriggle out like some post-Soviet countries do. They want to take something from Russia and give nothing in return,” he said.

According to him, it cannot go on like this, and the post-Soviet countries must be united.

“The time will come when you will turn to Russia and ask it for support and aid. You cannot ask other countries for that. For instance, something happened in Kazakhstan. What country did it ask? China, India, nearby Pakistan… No. It asked for Putin’s assistance! And we (CSTO – ed.) deployed special forces within half a day. Our aircraft landed in Kazakhstan right away. We calmed things down,” Lukashenko said, stressing that this was not a reproach.

The President of Belarus expressed confidence that, in case of emergency, the CIS countries will turn to Russia and Belarus for help. He urged the countries not to break the economic ties built in the post-Soviet area.

“Does Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan expect their goods to sell well in America or the European Union? Totally not. They want to sell it to Russia since there is a common market. Why do we have to lose what we have? Let’s add to what we have,” he noted.

Lukashenko also commented on the policy of the Armenian authorities.

“Who needs Armenians except us? Nobody needs them. They are free to develop their economy and take guidance from what they have. What France? What Macron? Macron will be gone tomorrow and everyone will forget about Armenia,” he said.
