‘If Harris is elected, the problem of regime change may be brought back to the center of US policy’: Vladimir Vasiliev on US preparation of ‘color revolution’ in Georgia

Speaking with Alpha News, Vladimir Vasiliev, Chief Researcher at the Institute for US and Canadian Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, commented on the news that the United States is preparing a “color revolution” in Georgia.

According to the expert, the US strategy is aimed at destabilizing the social and economic situation in many countries, especially in Georgia.

“It’s real, and this reality is quite interesting. It may be related to the fact that Kamala Harris (the US presidential candidate from the Democratic Party) currently leads the presidential race. For Americans today, it is apparently important to show that the arrival of those circles that stand behind Harris will contribute to the development of democracy. But these are the democracies in the form of color revolutions, regime change. This strategy may be aimed at destabilizing the social and economic situation in many countries, especially in Georgia. This situation may be of fundamental importance. The Americans may believe that in this case, if something happens—some kind of color revolution—it can spread to other Caucasian republics, maybe to the same Azerbaijan, and most importantly, to Russia. Maybe the Americans are working on this issue now,” Vasiliev said.

“It is fundamentally important to look at all this because Harris’ nomination is still being evaluated very little. It is believed that there may not be a big difference between her and President Joe Biden. But President Biden is quite a conservative politician due to his age. He has repeatedly stated—though it was a demagogic statement, or so-called distraction—that there will be no regime change. But if Harris is elected, the problem of regime change may indeed be brought back to the center of US policy. Therefore, what is happening in Georgia now is really fundamentally important. Americans are developing a new strategy if the president changes in America. This is also part of the strategy of ‘changing horses midstream’ in the presidential race,” Vasiliev concluded.
