13-year-old saxophonist Mikayel Harutyunyan wins Grand Prize of Dutch international competition

Mikayel Harutyunyan, an 8th grade student of Tchaikovsky Music School, won the Grand Prize of the Gold International Classical Music Competition (GICMC) held in the Netherlands in August 2024.

Mikayel, 13, has been studying at Yerevan’s Tchaikovsky Music School since 2017 and started playing saxophone 3 years ago in Professor Alexander Manukyan’s class.

Mikayel was born in a family with musical traditions. He is the great-grandson of the People’s Artist of Armenia, composer Karo Zakaryan, grandson of composer and pianist Suren Zakaryan, and son of pianist Lilit Zakaryan. Mikayel Harutyunyan is the winner of many international music festivals and competitions.
