Speaking with Alpha News, international relations expert Grigor Balasanyan questioned both the authenticity of the announced US investment package and the prospects of building a nuclear power plant, stressing that there are far more questions than answers on these issues.

Referring to the widely cited $9 billion figure, Balasanyan emphasized that it should not be viewed as a genuine investment.

“This is not an investment, but essentially a promise of investment,” he said.

According to him, such statements are mainly intended for informational purposes—to create the impression that the visit is not merely ceremonial but carries serious economic significance.

Balasanyan also pointed out that the key question remains whether these promises will actually materialize, and if they do, what the cost will be for Armenia.

Addressing the topic of constructing a nuclear power plant, the expert remarked that the United States has never built such a facility in any country, which in itself raises serious concerns.

“In this matter, the security risks are particularly high for a country like Armenia, with its small territory. If, God forbid, something were to happen, no one would be able to escape,” Balasanyan stressed.
