Abkhazia president resigns

President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania has submitted his resignation, Vice President Badra Gunba told journalists.
As noted in Bzhania’s statement, he resigned “in order to maintain stability and constitutional order in the country.”
All heads of agencies in Abkhazia, including security forces, remain in their posts, RIA Novosti reports with reference to MP Kan Kvarchia. Vice President Badra Gunba will become acting president, the head of the government will be former Prime Minister Valery Bganba. Protesters must leave government premises on November 19, otherwise Bzhania will withdraw his resignation.
The confrontation between the authorities and the opposition in Abkhazia began due to the investment agreement with Russia.
