“We approach the issue of captives from two perspectives, with the most important being their release. However, before that, we must consider the conditions of their detention and the observance of their rights. The problem of the captives is related precisely to the issue of enforced disappearance,” human rights activist Siranush Sahakyan said during the discussion on Armenian prisoners held captive in Baku.

According to official data, 23 Armenians are currently in captivity in Baku—five of them were taken in 2020, while the rest were captured in 2023. Trials have already been completed, and guilty verdicts have been issued against seven of the 23 individuals.
