Aintab Embroidery, one of the symbolic styles of Armenian needlework, has been officially inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The decision was made at the 20th Session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in New Delhi from December 8 to 13, 2025.

Aintab Embroidery is characterized by a combination of cutwork, drawn thread work, satin stitch, and needlelace, and is closely linked to the Armenian community of Aintab during the Ottoman Empire.

The photo shows an example of Aintab Embroidery created by Nevart Torosian (1930–2020), a renowned artisan who dedicated her life to preserving and promoting traditional Armenian craftsmanship.
