Aivazovsky’s paintings to be displayed at auction in Moscow

Auction ‘First Names’ will be held on March 25 in Moscow, Russia, with 52 works of Russian artists of the 19th and 20th centuries being displayed, including those of Ivan Aivazovsky, Ilya Repin, Nicholas Roerich, Apollinary Vasnetsov, and others.

As reported earlier, Aivazovsky’s ‘Off the Southern Coast’ became the top lot at MacDougall’s. The painting, written by the artist in 1893, is preliminarily estimated at 400,000–600,000 GBP. 

Last time, the work was exhibited at Sotheby’s in the summer of 2007 as a painting of one of the followers of Aivazovsky. It was sold for 108,000 GBP.
