Azerbaijan continues to destroy historical and cultural monuments in occupied Artsakh. This policy is pursued at the state level, and its goal is to completely eliminate Armenian traces in Artsakh, Ombudsman of Culture of Hayk Hovik Avanesov announced on Facebook.

He reported that on December 24, 2023, an Azerbaijani YouTube channel posted a video from the capital of the occupied Artsakh, from which it was clear that the statue of the philanthropist and national figure Alex Manoogian became yet another victim of the cultural genocide by Azerbaijan.

“Article 8 of the International Criminal Court considers the destruction of cultural heritage in the occupied territories an international war crime. According to Article 4 of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, any form of theft, pillage, or misappropriation of, and any acts of vandalism directed against, cultural property is prohibited,” Hovik Avanesov said.
