President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev commented on the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace talks and amendments to the Armenian constitution during his meeting with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Martin Chungong.

“There is already de facto peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia; the situation on the border of the two countries has been peaceful for several months. Peace can be achieved if amendments are made to the constitution of Armenia and other documents. France, by pursuing a destructive policy in the region, adds fuel to the fire,” Aliyev said.

According to Aliyev, there are many reservations regarding territorial claims to Azerbaijan in other legal documents of Armenia. Many conventions and other documents do not recognize Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Aliyev expressed hope that the amendments would be made as soon as possible. According to him, political discussions on this topic in Armenia are a positive step that can provide a good opportunity for the completion of the peace process.
