Aliyev’s goal is to cleanse region of Armenians — Sergei Melkonian

Aliyev aims to cleanse the region of Armenians, Sergei Melkonian, analyst and research fellow at APRI Armenia, told Alpha News.

“The agenda even included the question of whether Armenia is ready to buy gas from Azerbaijan. On the one hand, this sounds logical: if Azerbaijan seeks to make Armenia its zone of influence, then let Armenia become completely dependent on Azerbaijan in the energy sector. However, Aliyev’s goal is to cleanse the region of Armenians, to create conditions so that there are no Armenians here at all. Armenia’s steps show that it actually supports this agenda,” he noted.

According to Melkonian, Armenia’s constant concessions do not lead to good results.

“Today, even Armenian officials have stated that they have handed over maps to the Azerbaijanis and are constantly trying to assure that these are 100% correct maps. The strategy of these unilateral concessions, so that we hand over the maps, hand over Artsakh, hand over part of Tavush, has brought the enemy closer to our doors,” Sergei Melkonian concluded.
