All plans to isolate Russia have collapsed, expert says
Speaking with Alpha News, Boris Rozhin, an expert at Russia’s Center for Military and Political Journalism, commented on the results of the elections in Georgia, as well as the BRICS summit held in Kazan and its impact on the South Caucasus region.
“The elections in Georgia were more or less democratic. There were violations, but not critical. The US actually failed to create some kind of international background that would evaluate these elections extremely negatively because there are enough countries that recognize these elections as democratic and legitimate. Moreover, yesterday a video appeared with the President of Georgia admitting that, despite all the statements about Russia’s involvement, she has no evidence.
That is, in fact, all these accusations are unfounded. This also undermines the opposition’s claims to recognize the elections as illegal and illegitimate. Now, from the statements of the incumbent Prime Minister of Georgia and the Mayor of Tbilisi, we see that the Georgian Dream intends to defend its choice and is ready to fight,” Rozhin said.
According to the expert, the US is now threatening Georgia for the choice it made and its foreign policy.
“The US is now directly threatening Georgia, saying that if it does not change its current foreign policy, this will put an end to Georgia’s European integration aspirations and lead to various consequences. Consequences refer to personal, economic, and other sanctions that the US usually imposes against various countries that get in its way. This is a common American practice. Georgia wants to join the sublime European Union, and the reality, of course, is now a little different.
This causes a certain cognitive dissonance because democracy is when everyone is respected; each individual, even a small member of the international community, has rights. It is not when a small member of the international community can be dictated what they can and cannot do. In fact, this is how it was during colonialism, when colonies were dictated how and what they should do. But Georgia does not want to be a colony, this is a normal and healthy desire,” Rozhin noted.
Speaking about the BRICS summit held in Kazan, the expert stated that the West’s plan to make Russia internationally isolated has failed.
“The BRICS summit has finally shown everyone that the West’s plan to make Russia internationally isolated has failed. Everyone has seen that Russia is more than welcome in many countries, and, accordingly, all plans to isolate Russia have collapsed. The second point is that everyone has seen that BRICS, even though it is not yet a union but a kind of association, already surpasses the G7 in economic potential. On the one hand, BRICS itself should not be underestimated, and on the other hand, it should be understood that not all of the plans are close to implementation because the organization is still in the process of development; that is, it is not even clear yet how many members BRICS will have in a year or two because there are many who want to join,” Rozhin emphasized.
According to the military expert, Armenia needs to strengthen its army.
“In the current reality, after losing the Karabakh war, Armenia must resolve issues with its borders, that is, not let the country become a source of any military actions against Iran or the resumption of any real military actions with Azerbaijan, since it is obvious that the Azerbaijani army is currently stronger. Armenia needs to strengthen its army because the Karabakh war showed that if you do not pour the necessary resources into the army, sooner or later this can have a bad effect. In the modern world, not having effective armed forces means inviting neighbors to change the realities. Armenia is in a difficult position because Russia, due to its busyness with the war in Ukraine, cannot now protect Armenia as before, especially from pressure from Turkey and Azerbaijan.
At the same time, there is Iran, which has repeatedly advocated for the protection of Armenia’s territorial integrity and is against Azerbaijan’s attempts to lay claim to the southern part of Armenia. Armenia must maintain normal relations with Russia and Iran and not allow the West to use it, as they used Ukraine against Russia. In the long term, Armenia could really become at least a partner country of BRICS, so that with the development of trade corridors that China plans to build through the countries of the Caucasus and Transcaucasia, Armenia could connect to these corridors, receiving huge economic benefits,” Rozhin concluded.
