Deputy Mayor of Paris Arno Ngacha gave an exclusive interview to Alpha News and expressed his concerns about the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh.
Earlier, the Paris City Council unanimously voted in favor of his initiative to send 20,000 euros of humanitarian aid to the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh , which was later joined by many French local self-governing bodies. Humanitarian cargo is now stuck in Kornidzor.
— Thank you, Mr. Ngacha, for accepting the invitation to speak with Alpha News. The UN Security Council held an emergency session on the Artsakh crisis. Earlier, on your initiative, aid was sent to Artsakh from Paris, but it never arrived. What concerns do you have?
— The international community admits that there is a great humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, the population is living in tragedy, deprived of essential goods, which is a gross violation of human rights. Most members of the UN Security Council stated all this. Everything must be done to stop this, and that is exactly why the Paris City Council decided to provide financial aid. We were joined by a number of French local self-government bodies, and together we sent aid to Armenia. The first truck has reached Syunik and stopped. We are planning to send a few more. It is necessary for the international community to put pressure on Azerbaijan, urging it to respect fundamental human rights. The Aliyev regime uses the Armenian population of Karabakh in its fight against the Armenians, which is unacceptable. By sending aid, French cities show that they are not alone, we will not abandon them. Our voice, in political terms, is soft power. We, in turn, express our point of view to the French government, which plays an important role in the Minsk Group and, in general, in the settlement process of the Karabakh conflict.
— What motivates you to support Artsakh?
— I have a deep connection with Armenians and Armenia, I have known and loved the culture, the depth, the values, which I myself cherish. Also, I think oppressed peoples should be protected. The Aliyev regime is making various accusations against me on social media for my support of Armenia, but here I must mention that I support Armenians, primarily because international fundamental human rights are being violated. We cannot remain silent about the events unfolding before our eyes. By the way, there is something wonderful about it: we are all united in France regarding our opinion towards Armenia. There are no right-wingers, no left-wingers, no political debates. Our heart is with Armenians and we are united in helping them.
