According to human rights defender Ruben Melikyan, the application of the new article of the Criminal Code is politically motivated and raises serious questions regarding the conduct of the legal system. In a conversation with Alpha News, he explained that the article in question concerns interference with the political activities of a public official, and that its very application already implies a certain judgment.
“The use of this article means that the law enforcement system is effectively acknowledging that political activity was being carried out at that moment,” Melikyan noted.

He emphasized that if the incident took place in a church, it should be viewed not as interference with political activity, but as a disruption of a religious rite.

“During a liturgy, in a packed church, moving toward the altar and disrupting the service, what occurred is first and foremost an interference with a religious ceremony,” the human rights defender said.
Melikyan also added that responsibility in such cases should be examined more broadly.

“A legal assessment must be given to the actions of all individuals who took part in the incident,” the lawyer stressed.
