Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Andrey Areshev commented on the upcoming trilateral meeting of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels.

According to the expert, the goal of this meeting is the integration of Armenia with Turkey and Azerbaijan rather than with the European Union and the United States.

“First of all, I would like to note that there is not yet enough information regarding the content of the upcoming meeting on April 5. Still, various assumptions are made about the further deepening of ties between Yerevan, Washington, and Brussels, up to various communication and military projects in the security sphere. I believe that in reality we are talking about the integration of Armenia, not even with the European Union and the United States, but with Turkey and Azerbaijan, which in any case are part of this process. You just need to look at the geographical map.

Logistical, political, and other restrictions presuppose the real integration of Armenia into the Turkic geo-economic space in the Caucasus, with some shared leadership roles between the European Union and the United States. Obviously, this is beneficial to those forces that have gained additional influence, including organizational and personnel influence on the foreign policy of the Republic of Armenia,” Areshev said.

According to the political scientist, any movement towards Europe presupposes processes of endless division and movement in the direction directly opposite to national unity.

“Even in Armenia, this kind of evolution of foreign policy causes quite serious disputes and disagreements, despite the fact that the current authorities are trying to make Russia guilty of all problems and troubles. We know that Russian Armenians are presented as enemies. This policy presupposes a permanent split in society and further division into various factions, right and wrong. We know that the current Armenian authorities have been using these methods of manipulating public opinion for quite some time. At first, all those who disagreed with them were wrong, then at a certain stage, the Karabakh people became unwelcome. Now we see that Russian Armenians are wrong.

And we can go on forever. Any European integration, any movement towards Europe, as we see in the example of other post-Soviet states, presupposes processes of endless division and endless movement in the direction directly opposite to national unity. Quite serious efforts are being made to achieve this. We see that this tactic has a certain kind of success, much to my regret,” Areshev concluded.
