Speaking with Alpha News, Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church declined to comment on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s obscene remarks addressed to the clergy.

“I have nothing to comment on. I am not obliged to interpret the words of every sick person. I feel deep sorrow and tragedy that such a person holds the office of Prime Minister in my country. I attribute what happened to his psychological condition—spring episodes have passed, and now, perhaps, summer ones have begun,” Archbishop Ajapahyan said.

Referring to the statement by Pashinyan’s wife Anna Hakobyan, in which she called clergymen child molesters, the Primate of the Shirak Diocese said that if she does not name the criminals, then she herself is a criminal.

“If Anna Hakobyan knows the name and surname of clergy members guilty of child molestation, but she does not name them, then she is a criminal. The relevant authorities must deal with this, and if these relevant authorities have not yet acted, then they are criminals too. There is no place for pedophilia in this country—whether among the clergy, the laity, or anyone else. Anna Hakobyan must name offenders, if she doesn’t, she should be taken away by the relevant authorities,” he said.
