Any foreign military presence on Armenia’s territory is not beneficial to Azerbaijan – Alexander Krylov
Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Alexander Krylov commented on remarks made by Hikmet Hajiyev, an assistant to the President of Azerbaijan. Discussing negotiations with Armenia, Hajiyev noted that there is no need for foreign military forces to remain stationed in the region.
“This is another statement that is intended to stir up the information field, this is all in the context of information and propaganda pressure on Armenia. It is clear that Azerbaijan cannot decide what can be located on the territory of Armenia and whose bases can be stationed there, just as Armenia cannot object if Azerbaijan decides to establish some bases on its territory,” Krylov said.
According to the political scientist, all this leads to weakening Armenia as much as possible.
“In fact, the problem with signing an agreement is not this issue, but that Azerbaijan will continue to demand two conditions—the constitutional question and the dissolution of the Minsk Group. At the same time, a lot of new demands on Armenia are being discussed, which may be put forward later. If Armenia fulfills these demands, then new ones will arise: the return of the Azerbaijani population to their former places of residence, the demilitarization of Armenia, and so on. All this leads to the weakening of Armenia as much as possible. It is clear that any military presence of forces friendly to Armenia—whether bases, observers, or other monitoring entities—is not beneficial to Azerbaijan,” Krylov concluded.
