The Armenian authorities simply do not want to deal with the issues of POWs, since they have closed the Artsakh issue, regional issues expert Karen Igityan told Alpha News.

“Not only is everything that happened in Artsakh unimportant for Armenia’s current government, but they also have a hostile attitude towards all of this. If at one time Baku wanted to judge the leaders of the liberation struggle of Artsakh, in Armenia they have already been judged. This is about the leaders of Artsakh, the military, and now Azerbaijan has achieved its goals. For Armenia’s current authorities, this is not a big problem, and if it were, we all know what emotional speeches they would have made,” he noted.

According to him, the points of view of the current authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev coincide.

“In my opinion, they simply do not want to deal with the issues of POWs because the Artsakh issue is closed for them. As Aliyev says, the Artsakh issue no longer exists, and Aliyev and the Armenian authorities believe the OSCE Minsk Group should be dissolved. The Minsk Group, as an OSCE structure, dealt with the Artsakh issue and had three offices in Yerevan, Stepanakert and Baku. The organization’s employees worked in these three capitals. All this demonstrated that Artsakh had a status. The problem is that this team, which now leads Armenia, has been against the liberation struggle of Artsakh for decades. And now we see how the approaches of Armenia’s authorities align with Azerbaijan’s approaches,” Karen Igityan noted.
