The work of the Armenian National Committee made it possible to receive responses from various international organizations addressed to the Azerbaijani authorities and the international community on the trial in Baku demanding a fair trial, full respect for the rights, and release of the Artsakh military-political leadership as well as the Armenian hostages and prisoners of war.
The statement by Socialist International, in particular, said:
“These days in Baku takes place the trials of 16 Armenian captives, 8 of them Armenian ex-leaders of Nagorno Karabakh, following a prolonged period of detention. We call on the Azeri authorities to guarantee a transparent procedure according to the fair trial standards. Taking into consideration that the prisoners have not been given enough time to study the charges filed against them and therefore to have access to proper legal representation. The presence of the international legal monitors and observers is fundamental.”
The sham trials in Baku were also condemned by Frank Pallone Jr., Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-Chair; Dina Titus, Armenian Caucus Member; Yannis Maniatis, Vice-Chair of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament; and Nacho Sánchez Amor, member of the same political group.
