One of the reasons for the termination of the powers of five opposition members of the Yerevan City Council may be their absences, political strategist Armen Badalyan told Alpha News.

“The powers of a member of the City Council may be terminated if they have not participated in meetings, voting, or the work of commissions for a long time. Speaking about the reasons, I should mention that we can divide them into two parts: the ex-mayor and the remaining four opposition MPs,” Badalyan noted.

According to the political strategist, the central target is the ex-mayor, who, in the event of possible developments, may nominate his candidacy.

“Most likely, the central target is the ex-mayor, who, in the event of possible developments, may nominate his candidacy and receive votes from some members of the Civil Contract Party. To prevent this from happening, they decided to completely unseat the ex-mayor, and so that his removal would not be noticeable, they raised the question of other members as well. Even if these four people are unseated, others will come who will promote the same policy as their counterparts,” Badalyan concluded.
