Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiation process is experiencing certain difficulties – Maxim Chirkov
Speaking with Alpha News, Maxim Chirkov, Associate Professor at the Institute of Economics and Finance of the State University of Management, commented on the negotiation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“We can state that the negotiation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan is experiencing certain difficulties. I would not forecast the exact dates of signing. Recently, the two countries have been finding compromises and coming to a compromise, but the news that we see suggests that the path to compromise will be somewhat longer than we expected. I believe the reasons voiced by the President of Azerbaijan indicate that, from his point of view, many more different things need to be taken into account in the new agreements. And with this news from the President of Azerbaijan, we can state the negotiation process is beginning to experience certain difficulties. We are a little further from concluding peace agreements than it was even a week ago.
But I still hope that the rapprochement will eventually happen. And, it seems to me, the rapprochement of positions and the establishment of such a lasting peace in the region meet the interests of both countries, and it also meets the interests of Russia, of course, because this region is very important for Russia,” Chirkov said.
