Armenia falls under control not only of US, but also of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Israel – Vladimir Kireyev on Pashinyan-Trump-Aliyev talks
Speaking with Alpha News, Vladimir Kireyev, head of the analytical department of the International Eurasian movement, commented on the outcome of the talks between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, mediated by US President Donald Trump in Washington.
“Both Baku and Yerevan are quite pro-Western, so the idea that their problems are being solved by the center of this Western club—by its formal and informal leader Donald Trump—is psychologically and emotionally very comfortable for them. However, if we examine the long-term consequences, they differ significantly for each republic. Azerbaijan is generally a pro-Turkish, pro-Israeli state, which is connected with them by close and long-term interests. Azerbaijan is becoming a regional hub for implementing Israeli, Turkish and indirectly Western policies—not only in the South Caucasus, but also in the entire post-Soviet space,” Kireyev said.
According to the political scientist, the consequences of the negotiations in the US are completely different for Armenia and Azerbaijan—Baku gains, while Yerevan loses.
“Armenia is losing a lot in this situation, because at the moment it enjoys the freedom to cooperate with India, Iran, Russia, and Europe, that is, Armenia has its hands open for cooperation with anyone. And after signing these agreements, Armenia will fall under the foreign policy control not only of the United States, but also of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Israel. The subordinate position of Armenia will not allow it to cooperate with Russia, China, India, Iran. Political relations may change, it will be impossible to cooperate further, investments will be limited, and in the political sphere, Armenia will assume a subordinate role,” Kireyev concluded.
