Armenia confidently wants to become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a press conference yesterday, July 16.:
“In the previous period, we had observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. That is, it’s not that we came out of the zero state, we didn’t have a hello bar there either, we decided that we were becoming members of the organization. Discussions are currently underway that structural changes should take place in the organization, for example, the observer status should be abolished. Of course, this is not the most important reason, but we confidently want to become members of this organization,” Nikol Pashinyan said.
Initially, six countries were members of the organization: Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, in 2017 they were joined by India and Pakistan, and in 2023 by Iran.
