Armenia is very close to the point after which Russia will have to restructure its economic relationship with the country. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Ovechuk in an interview with TASS.

The Deputy Chairman of the Government acknowledged that at bilateral meetings, as well as within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), “Armenian leaders speak of friendship with Russia and affirm their commitment to the EAEU.”

“On our side, the discussions are candid and always respectful. At the same time, when you compare words with actions, you come to the conclusion that our colleagues have come very close to the point after which we will have to restructure our economic relations with this country differently,” he added.

As Ovechuk noted, the Russian Government, within the scope of its authority, is concerned about the prospects for the future state of trade and economic ties with Armenia. “Given the announcement regarding the sale of the concession, the general understanding of the regional context, and the Armenian leadership’s policy of drawing closer to the EU, serious questions arise about their future,” he stated.
