Armenia may soon be offered to join Turkish Empire or even Azerbaijan – Bogdan Bezpalko
Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko commented on Nikol Pashinyan’s new article about opening communications.
“In my opinion, Baku and Ankara are striving for dominance in the region, and, in particular, with the help of this dominance, they want to get an extraterritorial road between Nakhichevan and Azerbaijan to further develop expansion. Moreover, this corresponds to a number of interests of other states that are striving to strengthen their influence in the region. In particular, Israel is actively cooperating with Azerbaijan and, by the way, has always been Ankara’s ally despite rhetorical contradictions, because this will give it the opportunity to exert greater influence and pressure on Iran, including, possibly, military pressure.
And, of course, the United States, which, with the help of allied states, in particular Turkey, is striving to move closer to Central Asia, to the Caspian region and not to pump oil there —there are many oil-bearing regions in the world —but to control one of the main areas in Eurasia,” Bezpalko said.
According to the expert, Pashinyan’s unilateral concessions to Baku will lead to even more demands.
“The problem is that Nikol Pashinyan’s policy of unilateral concessions only leads to the fact that they demand even more concessions from him. Probably, after some time, Armenia will be seriously offered a project to join the Turkish Empire or, perhaps, Azerbaijan. And maybe they will even threaten it with military force. I am convinced that the EU and France will not provide any assistance to Armenia, both because they will not have the technical capabilities for this—after all, the countries are far from each other and France has no bases in the region—and because the French are unlikely to die or fight for Armenia.
The only key player that was able to maintain consensus and the status quo in the region is Russia. If the Armenian leadership decides to remove Russian border guards and military personnel and destroy the Russian military base in Gyumri, Armenia will simply be doomed,” Bezpalko concluded.
