There is no official cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the transboundary water resources management, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in response to the Sputnik Armenia inquiry.
Earlier, the US ambassador to Azerbaijan announced that a group of hydrologists and engineers from Armenia and Azerbaijan are working together on an integrated water management scheme for transboundary rivers in the region. The Armenian Foreign Ministry refuted this information.
“Contacts on this topic were only at the level of non-governmental organizations of the two countries,” the Foreign Ministry added. It also emphasized that Armenia actively cooperates in water resources management with partners who fulfill their obligations earnestly and constructively in accordance with the norms of international law, including environmental conventions. Georgia, Iran, and Turkey were named among such countries.
The Foreign Ministry reiterated its commitment to a constructive approach to water management issues, underscoring the importance of compliance with international obligations by all participants in the process.
